Hospital experience

Together, we are working towards an environment where patients, visitors and staff feel comfortable. Several working groups (e.g. patient empowerment, art in the hospital) actively contribute to this.

Natural

For our construction and renovation projects, we strive to create an open and pleasant environment where patients, visitors and staff feel at home and well-supported. We strive for optimal connection with the outside world by incorporating as much natural light as possible into our buildings and introducing green accents. We also use natural materials wherever possible.

A great example is the grand piano in the entrance hall of Maria Middelares General Hospital. Anyone can use this at the specified times.

Appealing

An attractive environment has a positive impact. In this context, since late 2016, an art working group has been present, consisting of staff from various departments and chaired by the pharmaceutical director. For instance, they organise exhibitions in our hospital corridors, but they also think about the appropriate decoration of the site. In Deinze, the Paediatrics Department has been decorated with a new and child-friendly theme with forest animals, and you will find street art on the outer walls of the Outpatient Rehabilitation Centre.

Since August 2022, you can find the wooden sculpture titled 'Mantelzorg' on the hospital grounds. The sculpture is a hollowed-out willow, where several heads can be seen at the top. The artwork was created by priest-artist Omèr August Gielliet and is a donation from the Overbeke-Wetteren church administration.
