Last week Dr Dewulf and Dr Petinckx performed a partial liver resection for the first time using a keyhole surgery at our hospital. Liver metastases (spreading of a malignancy in the liver) can now be treated in this way at our hospital.

For this kind of operation, a portion of the liver is removed using a few very small incisions instead of one large incision. The most important benefits of this technique include a significantly faster recovery for the patient, less pain, less blood loss and, of course, fewer wound problems after the operation.

Did you know? The liver is the only organ that has the capability to grow back after a portion of it has been removed.
