What is it?

Autophony is a very unpleasant 'double hearing' of one's own voice, which is perceived as an echo.

Treatment

Tympanic patching is a simple treatment that helps in 60% of the cases. It involves applying a patch to adjust the stiffness of part of the eardrum. Surgical interventions, such as narrowing the Eustachian tube or closing a third window, are only necessary for patients who were not helped by patching.
