Bridge angle tumour
Symptoms and causes
Symptoms and causesWhat is it?
A bridge angle tumour, also called a ‘vestibular schwannoma’ or an ‘acoustic neuroma’, is very rare. It is a benign tumour of the auditory and balance nerve. These benign tumours can cause a wide range of symptoms.
Diagnosis and treatment
Diagnosis and treatmentIf a hearing test suggests that this type of tumour may be present, a Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry (BERA) and/or an NMR will be scheduled. These tests provide a negative result in the majority of cases.
If a bridge angle tumour grows larger, we treat it with surgery or radiation.
In many cases, these tumours are monitored with yearly NMR scans since they grow either very slowly or not at all.
