Symptoms and causes

A corn is also called a clavus or a callus. It is a painful callus that forms on the sole of the foot or in between the toes. The callus forms due to pressure. Ill-fitting shoes can cause increased pressure on certain parts of the foot. Skeletal and positional abnormalities of the feet are also a cause of this.

Diagnosis and treatment

Diagnosis and treatment

The diagnosis is made based on what the physician observes.

Sometimes, a callus layer must be scraped off to distinguish it from a plantar wart.

The important thing when treating a corn is to relieve the pressure. This can be done, for example, by adjusting footwear or providing orthotic insoles. The callus kernel must also be removed. For that, patients are referred to the medical pedicurist. A softening ointment can be used before a pedicure treatment.
