Neck cyst

Symptoms and causes

Symptoms and causes

What is it?

It is a neck cyst with one of the common congenital neck abnormalities in the middle of the neck. A neck cyst is an encapsulated pocket of fluid. It is the residual thyroglossal duct, and it causes swelling in the middle of the neck.

They are located at approximately the level of the tongue bone and are often found in children. Since it is connected to the tongue bone, the swelling moves up and down when the person swallows or sticks out his or her tongue.
