CMV (cytomegalovirus) causes a viral infection, usually with atypical symptoms. CMV can be passed on to the baby and cause serious problems.

You can never completely avoid contracting CMV during pregnancy. However, you can take several measures, especially if you are frequently in contact with children under the age of 5 to 6:
- Wash your hands carefully with soap and water or disinfect your hands with hand sanitizer after coming into contact with saliva or urine, such as after changing nappies.
- Avoid contact by mouth: do not eat from the same plate or drink from the same glass, do not kiss on the mouth
