Symptoms and causes

Speech apraxia is an acquired speech disorder caused by brain damage. The most important problems concern the correct sound formation and the fluency of speech. Speech apraxia is usually caused by a brain infarction or cerebral haemorrhage (CVA, stroke), but many other neurological diseases can cause speech apraxia. Speech apraxia usually occurs in tandem with aphasia (acquired language disorder).
