Salivary gland tumours
Symptoms and causes
Symptoms and causesWhat is it?
Tumours of the parotid glands (salivary glands that sit just in front of the ears) are rare and are usually benign. The most common are the pleiomorphic adenoma and the Warthin tumour. These tumours grow slowly and are painless, which delays in their diagnosis and treatment.
Malignant tumours and metastases of surrounding tumours do not occur frequently. A facial nerve that passes through the gland may be affected.
