What is it?

With neuromuscular conditions, there is a problem with muscles or nerves outside the brain or spinal cord (e.g. nerves in the arms and legs, nerve roots in the low back or neck), or with the connection between the muscles and the nerves.

Symptoms

This can lead to various symptoms such as a change in sensation, typically in the extremities. Loss of strength is an important symptoms: it can present in the arms or the legs, but also in facial muscles, swallow or speech muscles or muscles in the torso or those used for breathing.

These conditions are often called ‘muscle and nerve diseases’.
