Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Departments and specialist areas
The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. These conditions are usually of orthopaedic, neurological and rheumatological origin.
Sport-related and other traumatic injuries are also included. Examples include (low) back pain, neck pain, whiplash, osteoarthritis, arthritis, muscle disorders and nerve injuries.
The service is recognised as a rehabilitation centre for locomotor, cardiological and neurological disorders, which are the main conditions served by this department. An individual rehabilitation programme is drawn up for each patient. This can be done on an outpatient basis or during a hospital stay.
Technical exams such as ultrasound and electromyography (EMG) are performed in order to make a diagnosis. In addition to infiltration techniques, treatments also include manual medicine, orthotics (orthopaedic material) and Extracorporal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT).
