Diagnosis and treatment

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department is a broad discipline that investigates and treats disorders of the locomotor system. These range from muscular-skeletal conditions (problems of the muscle, tendon, joint and vertebral column) to neurological (e.g. nerve injuries, CVA, Parkinson's) disorders.

Diagnosis and treatment

In addition to a basic clinical exam, an ultrasound or EMNG (nerve test) may be performed during the consultation to aid in making a diagnosis. The treatment is performed non-surgically and may consist of medication, injections, manual techniques or exercise therapy. Ultrasound-guided treatments will also be performed, including shockwave therapy and PRP treatment.

Multidisciplinary team

Depending on the problem, multidisciplinary rehabilitation may be started, for which you will be treated by various different therapists. The team may consist of physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, a dietitian and a social worker. All work together closely and consult other disciplines within the hospital regularly in order to provide you with the most optimal care possible.
