Spine Unit

The Spine Unit is a multidisciplinary team that helps patients with complex spinal pathology (involving the spinal column) that have a high risk of chronicity and for whom a multidisciplinary treatment is indicated.

Because back and neck problems have an important impact on the physical and psychological well-being, multidisciplinary treatment is indicated. These patients have their problem examined from every possible angle, and with the compiled expertise of all involved. Afterwards, a report is prepared with a clear presentation of the problem, diagnosis and prognosis.

Referral

Referral to the Spine Unit may be made by the neurosurgeon as well as by orthopaedists, rehabilitation physicians and pain doctors. Together, they discuss on a bi-weekly basis what approach is indicated for the referred patient. The coordinating nurse, physical therapist, psychologist, and social assistant also participate in this discussion.
