Paediatric Allergy Centre
Our specialised paediatric allergy centre focuses on children with chronic respiratory, gastrointestinal and/or skin problems and children who show acute, often severe symptoms following meals, insect bites or when taking medication. You can refer to us for allergic asthma, atopic eczema and allergies of various kinds.
The paediatric allergy centre is located at the Gentbrugge Medical Centre.
Team
TeamThe paediatric allergy team is multidisciplinary and consists of a permanent core of paediatricians, paediatric nurses, paediatric dieticians and all-round administrative assistants. In addition, consultant paediatricians, with specialisation in food allergy, asthma, eczema and anaphylaxis, are also used. These consultations alternate between Wednesdays.
Physicians
Each paediatrician has additional expertise.
- Dr Leus: food allergy, eczema and anaphylaxis
- Dr De Wilde: asthma, eczema and anaphylaxis
How we work
How we workYou can turn to the paediatric allergy centre for a variety of tests, individual guidance and support:
- extensive anamnesis and clinical research
- additional examinations with skin tests, blood draws, pulmonary function examinations
- written explanation of the type of allergy, administration of medication, skin care, diet
- supervision by a dietitian
- Intensive collaboration with the Paediatric Allergology Department of the Gasthuisberg Leuven University Hospital.
Our team is committed to regular re-evaluation of children with allergies, precisely because we know that allergies are highly subject to change over the course of the first 15 years of life. This allows us to maintain an overview and to quickly make adjustments where necessary by means of new prevention measures, medication adjustments, expansion or simplification of diets and/or additional patient coaching.
Diagnoses and treatments
Diagnoses and treatmentsThe Paediatric Allergy Centre diagnoses and treats multiple disorders:
- food allergy
- (allergic) asthma
- atopic eczema
- urticaria
- allergic rhinitis
