Medical Genetics
If more than two close relatives in a family have ever been diagnosed with a certain type of cancer, especially at a young age, chances are that a genetic predisposition is the cause. This is described as a hereditary genetic mutation in the family. Female carriers of this mutation have an increased risk of breast or ovarian cancer, and male carriers have an increased risk of prostate or colorectal cancer.
About us
Based on a medical family tree (also known as a genogram that includes the medical history of each family member) and a blood draw, we can determine whether breast, ovarian, prostate or colon cancer may be hereditary in the patient's family. We can also check whether a particular mutation, shown in the family to cause one of these cancers, has been inherited.
