Nephrology
Welcome to our Nephrology Department!
Our nephrologists (kidney specialists) are happy to assist you with the diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases and renal failure. They will work with your GP and other specialists to find the right treatment for you. Our specialist team will also take care to prepare you for renal replacement therapy, if required.
About our department
- Early detection of renal insufficiency is important. Appropriate treatment can prevent this from progressing to more severe forms of kidney failure. That is why the cooperation with GPs is so essential.
- Patients with kidney disease often have additional conditions (e.g. cardiovascular disease, diabetes). So, nephrologists work closely with other specialists and departments inside and outside the hospital.
- Patients with chronic renal failure receive pre-dialysis counselling by a multidisciplinary team. This team consists of the nephrologist, a specialist nurse, a dietitian, a social worker and a vascular or general surgeon.
- The appropriatemedication and diet help minimise the decline in kidney function as much as possible. This approach also reduces the adverse effects of renal impairment.
- If the renal function is inadequate, due attention is paid to the preparations for renal function replacement therapy.
