Practical information

Register at the A&E Department with the following documents:

• Your identity card.
• If needed, a referral letter from your GP or a specialist.
• If needed, insurance certificates (e.g. for work, sports or school)
• If needed, a medication list

You may also want to bring reading material or other things for passing your time.

Bring as few valuables or money as possible to the A&E. Do you still have a lot of money with you? If so, report it to the emergency department nurse. We will store these valuables or money in a hospital safe for you. You can request it back upon discharge.

The A&E physician can also ask a hospital specialist to come and examine you in the A&E. Depending on the reason for your admission, subsequent examinations may take place during your stay in the A&E Department:

• a cardiological examination, such as an electrocardiogram (ECG)
• a blood draw
• a urine test
• a radiological exam
• a neurological examination, such as an electroencephalogram (EEG)
• ...

• Privacy is very important to us. That is why each patient is given a separate treatment room as soon as possible.
• We ask the individuals accompanying you and visitors to stay in this room and not to walk around in the hallway. In consultation with the nurse, one or two family members or persons accompanying you may go with you to the treatment room. Other family members or supervisors will take a seat in the waiting room. In some cases, you may be asked to limit the number of visitors.
• A&E personnel also have a right to privacy. They do not give permission to have audio or video recordings taken of them. If you film an employee at A&E, we will ask you to delete the recording. If you refuse, we will notify the police. Of course, we do not give permission for the reproduction and distribution of audio or video recordings.
• An A&E Department can be a stressful environment. Decency and mutual respect form the basis for contacts between hospital staff, patients and visitors. There is no room in the hospital for derogatory remarks, aggressive behaviour or other forms of threat.

The A&E Department is located on level 0, Gate C005.

When you get to the hospital grounds, follow the signs to ‘SPOED' on the various signposts.

A&E parking

Patients visiting the A&E by their vehicle can use the underground emergency car park.

The A&E entrance (at the top of the ramp) only has a limited number of spaces available for the pick-up and drop-off of patients requiring emergency care. After dropping off your party, park your vehicle immediately in the emergency car park.

To receive the standard parking rate, you must validate your ticket at the emergency reception desk. You then pay for the ticket at the emergency car park ticket machine. If a ticket is not validated, you will be charged double the rate. This is to help us keep the car park available for emergency patients.

When exiting the emergency car park, the first barrier will open automatically. The ticket must be presented at the second barrier, when leaving the site.

For others using this car park, the rates listed below apply. You can validate your parking ticket at the machine at the emergency or day hospital reception.
