In some circumstances, a patient is no longer able to urinate or it becomes necessary to measure the urine output. In these cases, a bladder catheter is placed. We can then collect the urine and empty the bladder.

Problems that may arise:

  • bladder infection
  • eventual damage to the urethra when the bladder catheter is placed

These problems can be treated.
