Ultrasound of the heart via the oesophagus
What is it?
What is it?At the Intensive Care Department, we first monitor the vital functions of seriously ill patients or patients who threaten to develop a life-threatening problem. We use several different techniques to monitor these vital functions.
One of these techniques is an ultrasound of the heart via the oesophagus. For this technique, a tube is placed in the oesophagus while the patient is under local or general anaesthesia in order to perform an ultrasound of the heart. This gives us a good image of what precisely is wrong with the heart.
