Flexi-Seal for severe diarrhoea

What is it?

What is it?

In case of severe diarrhoea, it is possible to place a Flexi-Seal through the anus and into the rectum. This balloon-enclosed thin tube facilitates the collection of the diarrhoea in a bag. This avoids the damage caused by multiple episodes of diarrhoea on the backside of a supine patient.

Potential risks

Potential risks

The risks of this procedure are limited. There is a rare risk of damaging the rectal mucosa. Should a problem arise, however, we will remove the Flexi-Seal. This is usually a sufficient solution.
