Physiotherapy

What is it?

What is it?

Patients are seen by the department after being referred by the GP, specialist or rehabilitation physician. They determine the required frequency and the number of treatments. Manual therapy may be supplemented by specific exercises and exercises at home. On the basis of the patient interview and physical therapy examination, an individual treatment plan is drawn up and treatment is started. This rehabilitation programme addresses the following problems:

  • Back and neck problems: This population is treated both pre-operatively and post-operatively. Through manual therapy, we try to optimise mobility through mobilisation and manipulation. Further, muscle tension and pain are also treated through harmonious, pain-alleviating and relaxing techniques. In addition to manual therapy, a lot of attention is also given to exercise therapy. This is mainly aimed at restoring stability, muscle strength and physical fitness. Finally, functional exercises are incorporated. The aim of this rehabilitation is to resume daily activities and sports activities and to prevent back and neck problems to limit recurring issues.
  • Pelvic instability: Women who have pelvic instability symptoms during or after pregnancy are treated with manual therapy and specific exercise therapy.
  • Orthopaedic rehabilitation: This rehabilitation is aimed at patients after they were admitted for surgery of one or several joints. The focus is on mobility, strength as well as stability. With intensive mobilisation and exercise therapy, we try to rebuild load capacity, allowing the patient to resume daily activities and sports activities.
  • Sports rehabilitation: Through manual therapy and sports-specific therapy, we try to increase load capacity and reduce overload so that patients can resume their sporting activities. The therapy also has a preventative aspect to reduce the risk of relapse.
  • Other locomotor injuries: such as fractures, muscle tears/strains, ligament tears or strains, tendon problems...

In addition to the wide range of equipment, we work with two newer pieces of equipment in our hospital:

  • The AlterG Anti Gravity Treadmill minimises the impact on muscles and joints and maximises range of motion. The weight of the patient can be adjusted by up to 20% of their true body weight. This offers precise, safe and comfortable weight-supported therapy with a natural gait.
  • In addition, the therapists use the Redcord for many pathologies. Research has shown that physical inactivity or pain can lead to degeneration of one or more muscles, resulting in a tendency for other muscles to compensate and therefore be overloaded. This often leads to movement dysfunction and/or pain. The Redcord system, which successfully treats these problems, reactivates these muscles.
