Chin correction
- When? Chin corrections are usually performed to improve chin projection in the patient’s profile but can also ensure better lip closure. Chin corrections are sometimes combined with upper and/or lower jaw correction to achieve an ideal result.
- What is it? For chin correction, the chin is corrected separately. This involves the surgeon surgically disconnecting only the lower jaw, which supports the chin, and moves this into an ideal position. Afterwards, the bone fragment that was moved is fixated using a titanium plate and screws. No artificial materials such as silicone are used for a chin correction, since their results are less predictable and carry a risk of rejection.
- How? The entire procedure is performed through the mouth (via an incision on the inside of the bottom lip).
