Patch testing
When is it indicated?
These tests can only be scheduled after a regular consultation with Dermatology.
If you suspect that you have a contact allergy, first schedule a standard appointment.
Course of the procedure
In order to detect a contact allergy, an extensive series of products are placed on your back.
A contact allergy is a slow allergy. Therefore, the products will be applied on a Monday and you will come back on a Wednesday. On Wednesday, the patches will be removed to see if there are any reactions. It may take another two days before any reactions can be seen, so you may be asked to come back a second time on a Friday.
Do you have an appointment for patch testing? Note the following:
- Your back must be clear and not too tanned: the sun suppresses eczema and reactions to the tests. Wait one month after exposing yourself to sun.
- You may take pills for itching or allergies.
- Do you suspect you are reacting to something such as a cream, lip balm or gloves? Bring everything with you on Monday. It can be included in the test.
