Contrast swallow
What is a contrast swallow?
In a contrast swallow, you drink contrast fluid under X-ray to map the transition from the oesophagus to the stomach.
What is a contrast swallow for?
- A contrast swallow allows for the identification of a diaphragmatic hernia and the assessment of its size.
- In addition, passage problems or reflux of contrast into the oesophagus can be determined.
- The length of the oesophagus can be measured as well, which is important when surgical treatment is considered.
