Types of anaesthesia or sedation

There are different types of anaesthesia. Your anaesthesiologist (in consultation with the surgeon) will decide which type of anaesthesia you will be given, with foremost consideration given to the type of procedure that is to be performed. Partial anaesthesia or nerve blocks are often used for orthopaedic surgeries.

In some cases, the anaesthesiologist may opt for another type of anaesthesia based on previous tests and your current health status. On the day of the surgical procedure, you will always have the opportunity to speak in person with the anaesthesiologist who will be performing the anaesthesia.
