Speculum examination
What is it?
What is it?The gynaecologist examines the vagina and the cervix using a speculum (a metal or plastic instrument used for internal examinations). They are available in different sizes. The speculum is usually warmed prior to the examination. Once the speculum is inserted, the gynaecologist takes a pap smear or a culture, if required. Sometimes, a different type of speculum is used, such as a Cusco’s speculum to place a coil, among other things.
