Genital organs

Multiple organs are included in the (male) genital organs: the prostate, penis, urethra, testicle, epididymis and scrotum. Symptoms or problems can develop in these organs, just like in other places in our body.

  • Prostate infection

A prostate infection is an infection of the prostate.

  • Enlarged prostate

An enlarged prostate is an age-associated increase in the volume of the prostate: many men experience an increase in the prostate's volume as they become older.

  • Prostate cancer

Prostate cancer is a disease in which an abnormal growth or proliferation of prostate cells occurs.

  • Caruncula uretherae

A caruncula urethrae is a benign, red, wart-like thickening of the tissue, which can be painful and bulges out of the urethra. This condition only occurs in women.

  • Phimosis

Phimosisis a thinning of the skin, which makes is difficult for boys to retract the foreskin over the penis.

  • Paraphimosis

Phimosis leads to paraphimosis: when a foreskin that is too narrow retracts back over the penis, it forms a narrow ring that then cuts off the blood circulation to the tissues behind it. This leads to painful swelling: a paraphimosis.

  • Meatal stenosis

Meatus stenosis is where the end of the urethral opening is narrowed.

  • Urethra infections

A urethra infection is an inflammation of the urethra. This is often due to an STI (sexually transmitted infection), such as chlamydia.

  • Urethral stricture

A urethral stricture is a narrowing of the urethra due to scarring inside or around the urethra.

  • Urethral diverticulum

A diverticulum of the urethra is an protrusion of the urethra into the tissues around the urethra. You could compare it how an inner tube of a bicycle tyre would protrude if it were inflated too much.

  • Peyronie's disease

When someone has Peyronie's Disease, scar tissue inside the penis develops, causing crooked erections. This is sometimes painful. How crooked the erection is and the degree of painfulness often do not correspond. Sometimes the erect penis is quite crooked, but not that painful, and sometimes the opposite is true.

  • Epididymal cyst

An epididymal cyst is a swelling of the epididymis, which sits on a cavity filled with sperm cells on or in the epididymis.

  • Epididymitis

Epididymitis is an infection of the epididymis. In young men, this is often due to an STI (sexually transmitted infection).

  • Hydrocoele

A hydrocoele is a benign swelling that sits on a membrane filled with fluid and that surrounds the testicle. It is a sort of water balloon surrounding the testicle.

  • Testicular infection

An infection of the testicle is an inflammation of the testicle.

A genital prolapse of the organs in the lower abdomen (e.g. uterus, bladder, urethra, rectum or small intestine) means that these organs drop down and sag out of the vagina. This condition only occurs in women.

  • Ejaculation disorders

Ejaculation disorders occur when the release of sperm happens at a suboptimal time - usually too early, and with minimal sexual stimulation. Sometimes it happens too late or not at all.

  • Erectile dysfunction

An erection disorder is the inability to obtain an erection or to hold an erection long enough to have satisfying sexual intercourse.

  • Priapism

Priapism is an erection that is maintained for a long time and without any sexual stimulus.

An inguinal hernia is a protrusion of the abdominal membrane along the inguinal canal.
