In 1992, I received my Doctor of Medicine degree in Medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics. I then specialised in cardiology and received my diploma in 1998. After an additional two-year training programme, I was awarded recognition as an intensivist. In 1999, I started a theoretical training for sports physicians. I have been working at the Maria Middelares General Hospital as a cardiologist and intensivist since 2001. In 2004, I was contracted as a guest professor for Ghent University of Applied Sciences.
