Internship: practical considerations

Before the start of your internship

Before the start of your internship

Your supervisor/manager decides at what time you are expected to be at your (medical) department or unit. Go through your department's internship guide first and contact your department before starting your internship. You can find the contact details in the guide.

During the first day of your internship you will be shown around the department/unit and you will get to know the staff and physicians in the (medical) department/unit.

What you should take with you on your first day of the internship.

What you should take with you on your first day of the internship.
  • Identification badge (which you will receive at the student reception event)
  • A note book
  • Work material: pen, scissors...
  • Comfortable, safe and closed shoes

Are you an intern/student within a healthcare discipline (e.g. nursing, paramedical profession, physiotherapy or medical imaging)? You must bring your internship clothes/own coat. Our hospital provides the necessary work clothes if they are not provided by the training institute. You should indicate this when you register online for the reception event.

What about a locker?

  • Maria Middelares General Hospital: you will be assigned a locker the week before your internship starts. You will receive an email with your locker number and code.
  • St Vincent General Hospital in Deinze: you will be given a key to your locker during the reception or at the start of your internship, after you have paid a €10.00 deposit for this (cash). You will get the deposit back when you return your key after your internship. If we have not received the key back fourteen days after your placement, we will have a key made and retain the deposit.
